About
Story
Introduction
I graduated Dec. 2010 from the Elliott School of Communications at Wichita State University in Kansas. Finishing my bachelor's degree as a returning adult was an interesting experience, but since I had *no* idea what to choose as a major when I was 20, it has worked out well, I think. I had a fantastic career in publishing, digital imaging, and color science, and I also enjoyed my return to academia immensely. I now have amazing and interesting new friends. I earned multiple Merit Awards for analysis and research papers and photography - work completed for my courses at WSU.

I have over 20 years' experience in digital imaging and color science - I was a systems engineer with two multi-national corporations, Linotype Co./Linotype-Hell and Eastman Kodak Co./Kodak Professional. I also worked in WSU's Special Collections & University Archives for 2-1/2 years, primarily processing a collection of Wichita photography and the Gordon Parks Collection.

Key accomplishments while at Linotype and Kodak:
•  Working with product-development, engineering, marketing, and sales teams;
•  Beta-testing software and managed beta-rollout with selected customer sites;
•  Developing user documentation and user-tested all release documentation, providing voice-of-customer feedback to all product teams;
•  Providing technical support worldwide, including developing support plans for multiple product lines;
•  Conducting customer training (both on-site and via WebEx), and performing color fidelity troubleshooting including at customer sites;
•  Analyzing production requirements and then designing system integration workflows at customer sites; and
•  Planning/staffing company presence at trade shows.

I earned multiple top performance awards from each company.

I have traveled all over the United States, mostly for business; and have been to Canada, the Virgin Islands, and Mexico. I spent a lot of time on Long Island, NY and in/around Boston, MA, and made several trips to Kodak offices in Rochester, NY. I had amassed approximately 900,000 cumulative flight miles when I left Kodak in 2004.

I've used Photoshop since I was a beta-tester for the Knoll brothers. I am fascinated by far too many things to list here, but key interests are: My wonderful and diverse family and friends, photography, genealogy/family history, Photoshop, Havanese dogs, NASA, social media, Macs, Blues music, depression glass, digitizing and cataloging my huge cache of family keepsake photos/ephemera and my father's NASA memorabilia, collecting old photographs and vintage Florida postcards, and all things beach including seahorses and flamingos.

My passion is archiving, preserving, and digitizing family and community keepsakes, photos, and ephemera. I love digitally retouching old photos to restore their original beauty and detail. I hope to enter an Information Science grad program with a focus on Digital Archiving/Preservation and Visual Resources in the Spring 2013 semester at UT/Austin. My hope is that I can eventually contribute to an archive's or special collection's efforts to digitize its holdings both for preservation and for expanded researcher & public access, and learn how to help the "everyday Joe citizen archivist" safely preserve his own keepsakes. I have done archival scanning and retouching for a few families who wanted to preserve and organize their vintage keepsakes and who wanted retouched copies of photos for display and for sharing.
