Introduction
 I was born in Marblehead, MA, served three years in the army, earned a B.A. from the University of California at Santa Barbara, B.F.A. and M.F.A. at Yale University. I taught at U.C.S,B. for nine years, a year at Bowdoin and in 1971 became Chair of the Art Department at Bates College. I am now the Dana Professor of Art Emeritus of Bates College.
