Trained as an actor and a speech professor. Developed new methods for teaching accents to actors--also techniques for reducing regional and non-native accents and improvement of the speaking voice. Began publishing audio training materials (Acting with an Accent, Speaking Without an Accent, The Speaker's Voice) in 1979. After six years as a college professor, worked twelve years as Hollywood dialect coach for TV, film, and stage before joining faculty of alma mater, UConn. Currently Professor of Dramatic Arts there and Resident Dialect Coach at Berkshire Theatre Festival.
