I've been fishing since 1987 and a commercial Bering Sea crab fisherman for 24 years. I earned my Coast Guard mate's license in 1992 and upgraded to a master's in 1995.
My introduction to the Bering Sea took place on the deck of the crabber Juno. I have captained several vessels during the course of my career, including the F/V Sea Fisher, F/V Norseman and F/V Sirene. Currently, I am co-captain of the Wizard, my brother Keith’s Alaskan crab fishing vessel, which is featured on the Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch series.
Every October for the past 22 years, I leave my home in North Tahoe and set out for Alaska to perform what is deemed one of the deadliest lines of work — catching Alaskan crab.
From my very first day in Alaska, my life has consisted of one adventure after another. Among those memorable maritime adventures was taking the helm of Keith's boat, the Sirene, to support an oil spill clean-up operation off the coast of Unalaska Island in the western Aleutians, not far from Dutch Harbor.I'm excited to be sharing my adventures with everyone through the Discovery Chanel and my blog.
